The fifth Stereo* issue ‘Nonstop’ is the best project up now, realizing the idea of connecting multiple media. The past couple of months we published the pages online, making the process visible for all on the “Stereo Online Sketchbook”, to be found at the Stereo homepage. This sketchbook has been directly transposed to a printed publication, which in turn, features the research and ideas for the final artworks, presented at the exhibition –16 nov to 15 dec– at Expodium, Utrecht.
Stereo, in cooperation with Expodium, has tried to find new ways to experience the publication medium. We approached it from two sides; on one hand the printed format experience (flat, tactile etc.), and on the other side a physical experience, the exhibition. The 5 artists used the time-element, playing a key role in both experiences, as a central theme in creating their art-works.
These 5 participants give their interpretation of the theme ‘Nonstop’.
Arjen de Jong — Retrofuturism, Christel van Bezouw — Hair, Ingrid de Lugt — Tradition, Taco den Outer — the Agenda, Dunya Steyns — Soap Opera.
* Stereo is an independent publication, all three Duplex members are involved in creating and publishing it. Stereo appears in a limited edition, with no advertising, and can be considered a pioneer in magazine publishing. Stereo invites artists from different backgrounds and bring them together to collaborate on a given theme. The results of these (international) collaborations are published in the Stereo publications.
